The exhibition at Palazzo Morando (Milan, May 29/30 August 2015), curated by Anna Detheridge and Gabi Scardi, sponsored by the City of Milan and organized by Connecting Cultures (the non-profit research agency based in Milan, founded in 2001 by Anna Detheridge, critic and theorist of visual arts), deals with the relationship between art and fashion, understood as forms of social energy which can catalyze desires, obsessions, future projects through the work of 14 international artists. The works on display go beyond the idea of fashion as of a show of vanity, stimulating reflections on the crucial issues of the contemporary world, among which are emigration, ethnic hybridization, the transience of beauty….

“The horizons evoked by artists” say the curators,” represent a new beginning that could give the applied arts a more important role in contemporary society.” A fashion culture, not based only on trend and consumption, but focused on clothing as a distinctive element of social identity, could give fashion an inspirational value, connected not only to ephemeral aesthetics, but also collective ethics. Dressing, as with living and eating, is a basic need that deserves deep reflections. The unrefined and intriguing selection of works is effective in stimulating constructive thoughts, demonstrating that art knows how to provoke proactive sideway glances.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
