London’s Mortiz Waldemeyer has been internationally recognized for his ability to cast spells using light since his debut of an interactive chandelier for Swarovski. During Milan’s 2016 design week, he created special effects for Officine Panerai in Rossana Orlandi’s showroom. He created a luminous, coloured column made of fluttering watch gears resembling fireworks, together with timepieces enclosed in display boxes. In the courtyard, transparent, illuminated spheres made of gears danced on fine wires, like a series of full moons on a starless night. Mortiz exhibits a talent for creating special effects by multiplying and assembling, for example, in the Officine Panerai installation, watch pieces. The magic, more than simply the spectacular movement, is in the ingenious and patiently constructed “fabric” and its illuminated textures.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
