Milan’s historic artistic foundry, Battaglia, collaborates with important artists, closely guarding the casts used for their work. For the exhibition ‘Bronzification’, art director Francesco Faccin designed a series of bronze furnishings, inaugurating a new, equal partnership between artists and foundries that Faccin defined with an oxymoron: “third-party editor”. The designer stated, “In 2014, I was invited by Battaglia to ideate a project that could find new uses of bronze and lost-wax casting. We wanted to reach and attract growing sectors, like design-art. As Battaglia’s art director, I focused on a diverse modus operandi between designer and foundry, in order to undermine the co-dependent logic that governs designer, manufacturer and gallery owner”.

The Moodboarders is a glance into the design world, which, in all of its facets, captures the extraordinary even within the routine. It is a measure of the times. It is an antenna sensitive enough to pick-up on budding trends, emerging talents and neglected aesthetics. Instead of essays, we use brief tales to tune into the rhythm of our world. We travelled for a year without stopping, and seeing as the memory of this journey has not faded, we have chosen to edit a printed copy. We eliminated anything episodic, ephemeral or fading, maintaining a variety of articles that flow, without losing the element of surprise, the events caught taking place, and the creations having just bloomed.
