Hunter & Gatherer is a new chain of Chinese restaurants and markets that feature farm to table selections. These old-style farms have crops that are naturally pollinated, rotated and harvested without additional pesticides. One of the restaurants, Shanghai Yanping Rd., is just a short distance from the revered Jing’an temple. TRIAD China studio designed the interior, transmitting the company’s values through the simple, clean style. A direct relationship with the earth has been interpreted not only through the use of natural wood, but the unique painted crates cum chandeliers hanging above guests’ heads. Hunter & Gatherer promises to Chinese citizens to consider what they eat, and to consume local, non-treated ingredients. To help underline the direct connection between where a product is grown and where it is served, there is a video showing at the entrance, covering footage of the nearby Yangtai farms sourced by the restaurant. Guests can “technologically” participate in lifecycle of their food, from seed to table.
